My Experience With CliniMed Skin Care Products For My Urostomy

Anita products review Updated

Anita was diagnosed with terminal bladder cancer in 2016. She has since spent countless hours advocating for better patient care and raising awareness of the signs and symptoms to look out for. As a result of the cancer, Anita had her bladder removed and now lives with a urostomy – Sally the stoma.

Our sister company, CliniMed, recently sent Anita a variety of skin care products to see if there was something to help better care for the skin around her urostomy. It’s important to sample a few different things to ensure you’re using the right product for you and, as Anita’s reviews will tell you, she’s very glad she shopped around!

LBF® Sterile Barrier Film Spray

“I love using the sprays as that is what I was first given when Sally Stoma arrived and the sprays are what I am used to. I was surprised at how quickly this one dried as it seemed to be really quick. It left my skin feeling protected and sprayed evenly.”

LBF Sterile Barrier Film Wipes: “Little sachets of joy”

“I have never used barrier wipes before, but I am hooked! No more waiting around for the spray to dry or blowing on the area around the stoma. These dry in seconds leaving a thin protective film over the stoma area ready for your flanges and bag.

They left my skin feeling moisturised and hydrated. They come in a handy sachet and feel silky - I really did feel that my skin was protected with these wipes.

They take up next to no space in your kit bag and are discreet. I really love using these products and will be ordering these wipes instead of my usual spray from now on.”

LBF Barrier Cream

“I had never used a barrier cream before and realised pretty quickly that less is more, as I had enough cream to slather most of my stomach in! You really don't need a lot at all, a tiny blob not a huge tip of finger blob!

It wasn't greasy or slimy, and after I sorted out the right amount it quickly dissolved into the skin leaving it feeling moisturised. I was surprised at how quickly it was absorbed and dried.

I would use this cream but maybe only for home use as it is in a tube form which doesn't fit discreetly into my ‘going out’ stoma kit. It was handy for camping though and if you travel a lot it would be great to take along, although it’s bulkier than the wipes it left my skin feeling lovely.”

*LBF Barrier Cream range comes with several options, including a 100g tube, a 30g tube or pocket sized sachets. Order a sample on the CliniMed website.

Appeel® Medical Adhesive Remover Spray

“One of the things I love about this spray is that you can use it upside down and sideways. It feels light on the skin, doesn't sting when applied and is good for sensitive skin.

The handy-size bottle fits fabulously in my stoma kit bag and I’ve found it perfect for my needs as well as being great at removing the marks where my stoma bag and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) patches go.”
