Leicester based Stoma Care Nurses, Michelle Hill and Felicity Nutting have successfully held a second open day for children with stomas and their families at the Eyres Monsell Club For Young People in Leicester. The popular event was attended by a mixture of patients, families and friends.

The open day gave the children an opportunity to socialise and make friends with other children who have a stoma. They were also able to have plenty of fun taking part in arts and crafts, playing table tennis, pool and other games, plus making the most of the tombola and light refreshments. For the babies there was also a soft play area. All of those that attended received a goody bag and gift.

The event gave parents the opportunity to share experiences and talk to each other about life with a child who has a stoma and the impact it has. It was highlighted that parents felt they would like an organised platform for them to discuss issues in relation to travel, stoma bags, school, support wear and more. As such, it is planned that future events will try to incorporate some of these themes.

The next open day for children with stomas and their families at the Eyres Monsell Club For Young People will be held on Saturday 2nd December 2017, featuring a Christmas party theme. Whether you have attended past events or not, please feel welcome to come along for some festive cheer.

If you would like to find out more or register to attend the next open day, call Michelle Hill, Paediatric Lead at Leicester Royal Infirmary Stoma Care Department on 0116 258 5184. If there is no answer, please leave your name and phone number and we will call you back.
