Women are more susceptible than men to incontinence due to the nature of the female anatomy (for example, the female urethra is much shorter than the male one).

Pregnancy, childbirth and female incontinence

The effects of pregnancy and childbirth are known to be a common cause of urinary incontinence in women. Having large babies, 4 or more children or difficult deliveries makes a woman more at risk. The pelvic floor muscles and ligaments can become weakened and nerve damage can also occur during pregnancy and childbirth, resulting in bladder symptoms or female incontinence.
