Name: Ash Redfern
Based: Leicester Royal Infirmary
Work Experience: I started my nursing career as a Staff Nurse on a busy Emergency Medical Admissions Unit at the Glenfield Hospital (GGH), Leicester. I gained a solid foundation of knowledge here, before moving into a more senior role within the Outpatient Clinics at both the Leicester General Hospital (LGH) and GGH. I worked clinically in a variety of specialities in this role (including working alongside the Colorectal Specialist Nurses) whilst managing a large nursing team. I was always keen to learn more about the role of the Colorectal Nurse Specialists I worked with, who assisted patients throughout their cancer treatment and beyond.
Joined SecuriCare: October 2015. I currently manage the colorectal cancer surveillance programme with my nurse colleagues here at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. I also attend weekly multi-disciplinary team meetings for colorectal cancer care in Leicester. I am passionate about providing an informative and dedicated service to my patients, so that they are well informed and supported.
Outside of work: My passion is music. I actually DJ in my spare time, playing mainly electronic/house music although I enjoy many genres, having grown up in the 80’s and 90’s (probably the best era for music). I am also quite sporty and play football for a local club each week.
